The Hollywood Reporter has posted a story in that 1989’s Batman, Micheal Keaton is in talks with Warner Brothers to return as The Caped Crusader in the new Flash movie.
Here’s where it gets interesting:
If a deal makes, Keaton wouldn’t just return for Flash but possibly for several other DC-oriented film projects. Sources tell THR that the role being envisioned for the veteran actor is akin to the role played by Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something of a mentor or guide or even string-puller. Batgirl is one of the projects in development that could fall under that window.
This could be a smart move as Sam Jackson was instrumental in starting up the MCU with his cameos in the early Marvel movies.
Another interesting tidbit:
Pattinson’s The Batman is currently being looked as separate from Flash or other DC movies but the Flash feature project is offering an intriguing escape hatch to such ideas: the story is said to involve not just time travel but inter-dimensional travel. This posits the idea that those movies existed in their own timeline and, more tantalizing with the Keaton development, the idea that you can cross over from one “movie universe” to another.
Keaton, who will be 70 later on this year has also been in the MCU as Adrian Toomes / Vulture and is set to return in Morbius for 2021. Warner is mum on this news as of this posting. The Flash is set to begin filming in 2021 with Ezra Miller still attached to the titular role.
What do you folks think of seeing Keaton back in black for this possible recurring role in the battered DCEU?
