Wonka is going ahead, whether we like it or not. More big names have joined the cast, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman and Sally Hawkins.
Rowan Atkinson is known for Jonny English, Mr Bean and Blackadder. Olivia Coleman has won an Emmy for her portrayal of the Queen in The Crown and won an Oscar for The Favourite. Sally Hawkins has Oscar nominations for The Shape of Water and Blue Jasmine.
Other cast members have been confirmed are Tom Davies, Simon Farnby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, to name a few.
The story of Wonka is a prequel to the worlds most famous chocolatier and confectioner Willy Wonka.
We reported a while back that Wonka himself will be played by Timothee Chalamet. It will be produced by Warner Brothers.
This production was in the works before the news that Netflix has bought the rights to all of Roald Dahl’s work, who originally wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where Willy Wonka first appeared.
Paul King is directing, probably best known for the Paddington movies. With the writing credits going to King and Simon Farnaby.
I found out that the music is being done by Neil Hannon of Divine Comedy. He also wrote the theme tune to Father Ted. I’m sure a lot of American Outposters may not of heard of Ted, but it is very, very funny.
Anyway, having good music doesn’t mean it will be a good movie. We have to wait until 2023 to see how Wonka turns out.
