Long considered among Tom Clancy’s best works, everyone wondered when Without Remorse would get the big screen treatment. The hard edged tale of revenge, set against the backdrop of urban crime in the US and espionage in Vietnam, sets up the entire back story of one of Clancy’s best characters. Jack Ryan’s go-to guy, John Clark. Clark is an operator and frequently the strong arm of the CIA, acting on intelligence from Ryan’s analysis.

When the adaption did materialize, the character played by Willem Defoe in Clear And Present Danger, then Liev Schreiber in The Sum Of All Fears, was recast in the shape of Creed star Michael B. Jordan.

Now we have a trailer. Amazon Studios bought the movie from Paramount and Skydance in the face of release uncertainty due to the pandemic. It will stream direct on Amazon Prime on April 30th.

The trailer seems to hint that the story may have been significantly changed as the setting is updated from the 1970’s of the book. In this version Clark sends himself on a mission to avenge his wife’s death and uncovers a bigger conspiracy.

Jamie Bell, Guy Pearce, Jodie Turner-Scott, Luke Mitchell, Todd Lasance and Jacob Scipio co-star. The movie is directed by Stefano Sollima (Sicario 2).
