Movie score maestro John Williams is 90 years old and had previously said that Indiana Jones 5 will be his last score composition. However there is still one franchise he could be tempted by – James Bond.

Iconic scores for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Indy and Superman mean he has the franchise game covered, but what about the longest running Western franchise of them all? He’s never been involved with the world of Bond.

The closest he probably came was when Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were on vacation in Hawaii post-Star Wars and Spielberg said he wanted to make a Bond film for Eon.

Lucas then told him about Indiana Jones and the pair went on to make Raiders Of The Lost Ark with Williams scoring instead of Spielberg putting himself forward to make a Bond movie.

In an interview for Classic FM in the UK he was asked if he could be tempted out of retirement for a chance to do a Bond score, and his answer:

“I’d love it!”

He also talked about his work on Indiana Jones 5 and said the score is about 30% finished at this stage.

John Williams has been nominated for an incredible 52 Academy Awards. He has won 5; 6 Emmy Awards, winning 3; 25 Golden Globe Awards, winning 4; 71 Grammy Awards, winning 25; and has received 7 British Academy Film Awards.

With 52 Oscar nominations, Williams currently holds the record for the most Oscar nominations for a living person, and is the second most nominated person in Academy Awards history behind Walt Disney’s 59. He won Best Original Song for Fiddler On The Roof.

Indiana Jones 5 is out June 30th 2023.
