Wilford Brimley had an incredible body of work spanning decades and across all media. He also starred in a series of ads for diabetes that became a long standing internet meme.
TMZ reports that he has passed away at the age of 85 at his home in Utah. He had been in a hospital ICU on dialysis for several days.
His filmography is wide and varied. Cocoon, The Thing, The Natural, The China Syndrome, The Firm, Hard Target, In & Out, My Fellow Americans, Absence of Malice, Tender Mercies, High Road to China, 10 to Midnight, The Electric Horseman, the list goes on and on.
On TV he had roles in The Waltons, The Oregon Trail and Our House. He also appeared in the Star Wars televised movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and starred alongside Mark Hamill in the computer game Wing Commander IV: The Price Of Freedom.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, and his three children.
