Is it finally happening? Is Jaws 5 finally coming? Some people on the internet think so, and people on the internet are always right aren’t they?

Well, maybe.  But probably not.  There is a secret aquatic monster movie in production at Universal.  Universal is the studio home of the Jaws franchise and we know they looked at Jaws for a potential relaunch or reboot about a decade ago.  Sharks are hot right now with The Meg making bank, The Shallows showing what the tech can do and Sam Worthington about to battle Alphas in the most bonkers movie premise of the last couple of years.

The apparent working title is Don’t Go In The Water, which harks back to Jaws 2 and its famous tag line:

”Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water”

However Universal insist that they are not covering for a secret Jaws 5 production and this movie is an all new waterborne monster movie. That is all they are saying and this thing is locked down tight.

Other online speculation is that it is the log rumoured remake of The Creature From The Black Lagoon.

It has also been speculated that it could be a Mososaurus spin-off from Jurassic World.  Not so, insist Universal.  This is original.  This hasn’t stopped online speculation.

The script was written by Peter Gaffney (Aaahh!!! Real Monsters) with Stranger Things Shawn Levy and Dan Levine producing.

Watchman TV director Stephen Williams is onboard to sit behind the lens.

After Jaws The Revenge we can’t help but think the franchise deserves a better send off, even if this project is nothing to do with sharks.
