Keanu Reeves is generally regarded as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. His generosity is often talked about, as is the time he gives up to his fans when they approach him. So it is something of a riddle in celebrity circles as to why Friends star Matthew Perry is not a fan.
His upcoming memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing has had some excerpts published by The New York Post and in the book he reportedly makes two references towards Reeves. Perry and Reeves were both friends of River Phoenix and Perry writes this:
“Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”
Phoenix famously died at LA’s famous The Viper Room from an overdose of cocaine and heroin. Of his death, Perry says:
“I heard the screaming from my apartment; went back to bed; woke up to the news. River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down.”
He has another dig too. When speaking of the death of Chris Farley in 1997, also of an overdose, he says:
“I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”
They have never worked together and as far as we can see online, Reeves has had nothing to say about Perry. The book tells all about Perry’s struggles with addiction including when his colon burst and he nearly died during the surgery to fix it. Perry claims to have spent over $9 million on rehab efforts.
