Back in 2005 a romcom came out of nowhere and earned big bucks. $288m for a adult orientated comedy was unheard of. The movie subsequently did good business on rental and home release and was one of a handful of titles held as being responsible for reigniting adult comedy in movies, a genre that had been struggling for a while.
Wedding Crashers also made Isla Fisher into a star, showed of Christopher Walken’s great comic timing and reminded everyone that Jane Seymour is still unbelievably hot. So it’s no surprise to hear that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are in talks to return, along with director David Dobkin, to make a sequel.
Vaughn confirmed it himself to Entertainment Tonight:
“Owen and I and the director have been talking seriosuly for the first time about a sequel to that movie. There has been an idea that is pretty good. So we are talking about that in the early stages.”
Dobkin himself said earlier in the year that he had drafted a potential script and th two leads had read it. The two stars are now seriously considering returning as the divorce counsellors who gatecrash weddings they aren’t invited to in order to meet women to sleep with.
A strong cast including Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, Rebecca De Mornay, Bradley Cooper and even a Will Ferrell cameo rounded out the first entry.
Of course, we are not allowed nice things anymore with the permanently outraged cancel culture mob on the rampage, and they have already been critical of the first movie over the portrayal of gay and non-white characters. Also they have, of course, accused it of being misogynistic.
Yeah, its still funny though.
