New Series Premieres Next Month
This weekend, HBO dropped a full, new trailer for its upcoming Watchmen adaptation created by Lost and The Leftovers co-creator Damon Lindelof.
Here’s the trailer:
Set in the modern-day, superheroes are outlawed, but a new “terrorist organization” called the Seventh Calvary, who appropriate Rorschach’s inkblot mask as their own, have risen in the absence of heroes.
It’s because of the Seventh Calvary, that the police wear masks.
The events of the original Watchmen book all happened. Doctor Manhattan is sequestered on Mars; a giant psychic squid mutant murdered millions around the world, and Rorschach martyred himself to reveal Ozymandias’s plans to the masses.
Jeremy Irons plays Adrian Veidt, formerly Ozymandias, and the only confirmed member of the core Watchmen returning to the series.
Lindelof insists viewers don’t need to have read Watchmen to grasp the series. He said:
“Our Watchmen honors the graphic novel without making it necessary to have read it in order to understand this new story,”
Read into that what you will.
Watchmen will premiere on HBO on October 20th.
