Timothée Chalamet Or Tom Holland To Play Willy

The prequel to the kid’s movie Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory has now been given a release date of 2023.
Variety reports that Wonka will be produced by David Heyman of the Harry Potter series. The script comes from Simon Rich, who oversaw the transformation of his short story Sell Out into the Seth Rogen film An American Pickle.

Collider reports that Dune’s Timothée Chalamet is being considered to play the younger version of the chocolatier with Tom Holland also reported being in the running.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film is described as –

“a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.”

News of a Willy Wonka prequel first came to light in 2018, with Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover and Ezra Miller being considered to play the title role.
There are precious few details about the movie beyond the fact that Warner Bros. will distribute it in 2023. The last take on the character came in the form of Tim Burton’s 2004 film starring Johnny Depp which gave Wonka a backstory, wherein Wonka’s father was a dentist who hated sweets, and the chocolatier was portrayed as more of a recluse than in Gene Wilder’s classic.

Wonka is currently billed for release on March 17, 2023. Stay tuned for casting updates as they come in.
