Lionsgate TV has produced First Ladies.  Showtime has picked the show up and will broadcast.  Now comes news that Viola Davis has joined the cast.

Having won an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards, she is the first black actress or actor to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting.  Serious talent.  She will play Michelle Obama.

According to website Dark Horizons, the show will focus on much more than just the Obama administration:

“The show is set in the East Wing of the White House, where many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view – made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies.

Episodes will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of some of America’s most iconic First Ladies with the first season to focus on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama.”

However any fan of modern stand-up comedy will be unable to think of First Ladies without this coming to mind:

Aaron Cooley created the series and will write alongside Cathy Schulman, Jeff Gaspin, Julius Tennon, Brad Kaplan and Davis.

The East Wing

Cooley will also Executive Produce.  No air date is set.

Maybe it turns out that the US Military has perfected time travel and First Ladies from different eras join forces to fight a galactic level threat.  Nancy Reagan using Kung-Fu on bad guys, Melania Trump as a wise-cracking weapons expert etc.

But almost definitely that won’t happen.  Almost.  Definitely.
