VENOM 2 Reveals SPIDER-MAN Links?

285

It’s a bigger “Will They / Won’t They” saga than Ross and Rachel. Will Venom 2 reveal links to Spider-Man? The alien symbiote and friendly neighborhood wall-crawler have a shared history going all the way back to 1984 in Marvel Comics’ The Amazing Spider-Man #252. However, they have only ever shared the big screen once in the form of Topher Grace and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 3, a movie I have still only seen once.

Speculation has been rampant. First Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis commented:

“Look, that’s the question on everyone’s lips… They want to know when Venom is gonna meet Spider-Man. But personally, it’s never gonna happen…”

Before cracking a smile and admitting:

“I’m only joking! Of course it’s gonna happen!”

He went on to urge caution and say it wasn’t something to be rushed:

“Look, it depends when you want to get there, and also, what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories then, to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between now and then.”

However then Lin Oeding, a filmmaker and friend of Tom Hardy, posted an Instagram picture that featured Tom Hardy in a Spider-Man: No Way Home production cap of the kind only given out to cast and crew. When this was pointed out Oeding hastily deleted the shot off Instagram.

Poking fun at the Spider-Man stars inability to keep his mouth shut about spoilers, one Twitter user joked:

“Tom Hardy is the new Tom Holland,”

Now, according to leaks, the starting gun has been officially fired on the future team-up as the post-credits stinger to Venom: Let There Be Carnage has leaked, and people who couldn’t keep quiet reveal it does feature Spider-Man.

According to people at an advanced screening of Venom 2, the post-credits scene sees Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock watching a TV report about Tom Holland’s Peter Parker / Spider-Man, accompanied by footage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hero. The scene then ends with Eddie’s symbiote dryly acknowledging that Spider-Man:

“…looks delicious!”

Will this be a two-way cameo? Will Brock appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home as the hastily deleted photo of the cap hints at? We will find out at Christmas as the third Spider-Man movie comes out on 17th December 2021.
