Show Axed After One Season

After only one season, Amazon has cancelled Utopia, Gillian Flynn’s sci-fi drama starring Rainn Wilson and John Cusack.

Based on the British series of the same name, the thriller followed five fans of a fictional comic called Utopia. After meeting online the group begins to unearth hidden meanings hidden within the pages of the book, realising that the comic’s threats to humanity aren’t fictional, but very real. The adventure brought them face-to-face with Jessica Hyde, the comic’s central character, who joined them on their mission to save the world.

The eight-episode run starred Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie in his first series regular role for television, and Wilson as Dr. Michael Stearns.

The series also featured Ashleigh LaThrop, Dan Byrd, Jessica Rothe, Desmin Borges, Javon “Wanna” Walton and Christopher Denham. It was a co-production between Endemol Shine North America, Kudos and Amazon Studios.

News of the cancellation comes days after Amazon renewed The Expanse for a sixth and final season so that fans could get –

“the satisfying conclusion to the series that they deserve.”
