Tom Holland is having a bad week. First of all Sony and Marvel manage to out retard each other with Spider-Man stuck in the middle. Now he’s weeks out from starting filming on Uncharted and the Director walks.
Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Boys) has exited the upcoming film adaptation of the video game franchise at Sony Pictures.
Holland remains attached. Apparently, a frantic exercise is underway at Sony to lock down a new Director with meetings already taking place.
Trachtenberg signed on eight months ago to the project. He is the latest in a long line of directing talent to swing through the revolving door.
David O. Russell, Joe Carnahan, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, and Shawn Levy have all been attached and then bailed. This will be the first feature production of Sony PlayStation Productions, which was set up at Sony last year.
I wonder what the issues could be? Hmm, let’s look at who is involved. Sony, Chuck Roven, Avi Arad…. no, no idea at all what the issues could be here?
Still, at least there wasn’t a massive techno-hack that exposed the entire upper echelon of a major movie studio as being intellectually sub-par toddlers, right?
The script by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Rafe Judkins will serve as an origin for treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The game series from Naughty Dog is critically acclaimed and has sold over 41 million copies to date.
