A report has published the title for the remake of the South Korean horror flick, Train To Busan, with the US version titled Last Train To New York.

Train To Busan

The remake will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, with the recent report from Deadline saying:

“Tjahjanto is currently attached to direct the New Line remake of Korean hit Train To Busan, which we hear could be titled Last Train To New York.”

Released in 2016, the original Train To Busan was directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starred Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, Choi Woo-shik, Ahn So-hee and Kim Eui-sung.

The majority of the story takes place on a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan as a zombie apocalypse suddenly breaks out in the country and threatens the safety of the passengers.

The film became a huge hit on release, and scooped a worldwide box office total of $98.5 million, becoming the highest-grossing Korean movie in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, as well as the highest-grossing South Korean film of the year.

The zombie flick was also met with praise from both critics and audiences alike thanks to its refreshing spin on the horror genre, genuinely terrifying and brutally claustrophobic sequences, along with its lightning pace and a cast of great characters.

Tjahjanto, who is best known for The Night Comes for Us and V/H/S/2, recently responded to criticisms of the idea of a remake of Train To Busan:

“When your @ is suddenly filling up & its more about Train To Busan remake,”

“In James Wan own words: Timo, we need to rise above AND beyond everyone’s expectations, just like other great remakes have done such as The Ring or Dawn of the Dead remake. Who am I to let my boss down?”
