A new trailer for the Willow TV series has been released by Disney+. This will be a sequel to Ron Howard’s 1988 fantasy film.
A Little Adventure
Willow and his new pals are in search of Elora Danan, the baby in the original film, who is now an adult but has vanished without a trace. Because she is destined to save the world from the forces of darkness, her true identity has been hidden, even from herself.
You’ll see from the trailer that the Willow series has a good mix of action, magic, comedy, and fantastical creatures including a real-life midget!
Joanne Whalley, Kevin Pollak, and Rick Overton will all return, reprising their original roles of Sorsha, Rool, and Franjean respectively. Christian Slater and Ralph Ineson have been cast in undisclosed roles.
Rumours persist that Val Kilmer could return to play Madmartigan. However, after seeing him in Top Gun: Maverick and the effects that cancer has had on him, I’m not sure to what extent.
In another example of falling upwards at Disney, Jonathan Kasdan who wrote Solo: A Star Wars Story is overseeing the series.
George Lucas wrote and produced the original Willow film and it was expected to be a major hit. Typically, as with most cult classics, it underperformed at the box office earning just over $57 million worldwide.
And yet 34 years later, it’s still a beloved movie and is justifiably getting a new lease of life. Proving once again that big box office numbers don’t always mean the movies are a success – looking at you Marvel.
Willow waddles onto Disney+ on 30th November, check it out:
