The Last Blockbuster will feature interviews with fans, employees and business people, as well as taking a nostalgic look back at the store.
Netflix will stream The Last Blockbuster documentary which follows the story of the video store’s demise. Blockbuster previously passed on the opportunity to buy Netflix before the streaming giant took over as a major player in the media world.
A statement on the official Facebook page for the documentary reads –
“A lot of people know that Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix early on and they passed on the opportunity.
“In an ironic twist of fate, our movie The Last Blockbuster is coming to Netflix one week from today.
“We are beyond excited for people to get to see this tribute to the era of home video on the world’s largest streaming service.
“Just don’t forget to rewind it when you’re done watching it and bring it back by noon on Wednesday.”

Netflix describes the documentary –
“Filmmakers Taylor Morden & Zeke Kamm follow the manager of the world’s sole remaining Blockbuster in Bend, OR, Sandi Harding, as she reflects on the store’s vibrant past and navigates the difficult task of keeping a video rental store open in the era of streaming. Taking us through the history and subsequent rise and fall of the franchise, the documentary reveals the real reason why Blockbuster went out of business (hint – it wasn’t Netflix) while celebrating the unique and defining culture it created in the ‘90s, honoring a simpler time and the sense of community that could once be found in Blockbuster locations across the world.”
The Last Blockbuster premieres on Netflix starting on March 15th.
