Stowaway is the latest film by Arctic director Joe Penna. It follows a crew on a mission to Mars when an unintended stowaway accidentally causes damage to the spaceship’s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially fatal outcome, the crew is forced to make an impossible decision.

The Netflix synopsis for Stowaway reads –
“The crew of a spaceship headed to Mars discovers an accidental stowaway shortly after takeoff. Too far from Earth to turn back and with resources quickly dwindling, the ship’s medical researcher emerges as the only dissenting voice against the group consensus that has already decided in favor of a grim outcome.”
Speaking about the movie to Entertainment Weekly, Kendrick said –
“The thing that feels really relevant is less the isolation of it and more that kind of problem-solving part of your brain that we were all engaging so vigorously in the first couple months of the pandemic,”
“Just that constant problem-solving of, ‘wait, okay, how do we fix this?’ And just when it seems like you’re onto something, there’s some very obvious fundamental problem.”
Fresh from Disney+ Christmas film Noelle, Kendrick will lead a cast that includes Collette (Hereditary), Dae Kim (LOST) and Shamier Anderson (Destroyer).
The film was shot entirely in Germany at Bavaria Studios in Munich and at MMC Studios in Cologne, with VFX handled by RISE | Visual Effects Studios.
Stowaway premieres on Netflix on April 22nd.
