There are seven books in the series upon which Foundation is based, which means the series has plenty of source material to draw from.
Hailing from David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman, Foundation is set in a far distant future when humanity has thoroughly colonized the entire Milky Way galaxy, and Earth itself is just a distant memory.
The story follows a mathematician whose models predict the fall of the Galactic Empire, and the subsequent efforts of a group of people, namely the top engineers and scientists in the galaxy, to save humanity from languishing in a dark age.

Apple’s official synopsis reads:
“When revolutionary Dr. Hari Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a band of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization. Enraged by Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons — a long line of emperor clones — fear their grasp on the galaxy may be weakening as they’re forced to reckon with the potential reality of losing their legacy forever.
This monumental journey chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties, and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.”
Foundation stars Jared Harris as Hari Seldon, Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick, Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin, Lee Pace as Brother Day, Cassian Bilton as Brother Dawn, Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk, Laura Birn as Demerzel, Daniel McPherson as Hugo, T’Nia Miller as Halima, Pravessh Rana as Rowan and Kubbra Sait as Phara.
