Led By An Evil Ron Swanson
FX’s latest series, Devs, written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation) will premiere on Hulu next month.
The story itself has been under wraps for some time, but an official synopsis has now been released, the series aims to be both chilling and thought-provoking. Here are the trailers –
The official synopsis –
“Software engineer Lily Chan (Sonoya Mizuno) works at Amaya, a massive quantum computing company overseen by CEO Forest (Nick Offerman). There are many things going on at Amaya, but the one department everyone is keenly aware of is Devs. Everyone assumes its a code-name for “development”, but whatever goes on in Devs is super top secret. So when Lily’s boyfriend Sergei (Karl Glusman), who also works at Amaya, is recruited to join Devs, it’s kind of a big deal. But what should be cause for celebration turns into potential tragedy when Sergei disappears. Lily suspects foul play and launches her own amateur investigation, drawing in her ex-boyfriend Jamie (Jin Ha) for back-up.”
During the panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour (via Syfy), Garland conceded that philosophical arguments about technology are –
“can’t be reduced to sound bites. But I don’t want to reduce the truth of the thing. Doing that is a real disservice, by making real things false.”
It seems Garland intends to let viewers think through these issues for themselves and arrive at their own conclusions about Devs.
Garland recently rejected talk of a return to direct a new Dredd movie and is also involved in writing the Halo movie that is now being reworked into a Showtime series.
Devs is scheduled to premiere its first two episodes on Thursday, 5th March. The remaining episodes will be available to watch on a weekly basis exclusively on FX on Hulu.
