Premieres On Animal Planet This Weekend

Tiger King star Joe Exotic will star in a new documentary called Surviving Joe Exotic, which was filmed four months prior to his arrest.

Joe Exotic, (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage), is currently in prison for organising a hit on his rival Carole Baskin. The unique zoo owner was made famous when the series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem And Madness, became a huge hit on Netflix during lockdown.

The new documentary features one of the last interviews with the controversial zookeeper before his incarceration.

The one-off special is set to follow the stories of the animals that were rescued from Exotic’s G.W. Zoo and given a second chance.

The Netflix documentary ends with Exotic being sentenced to 22-years in federal prison for two counts of murder-for-hire in an attempt to kill Baskin, as well as numerous other wildlife violations.

There are currently several adaptations of this “universe” in progress, one of those adaptions will star Tara Reid as Joe Exotic’s rival Carole Baskin, as well as an eight-episode scripted series based on Tiger King with Nicolas Cage playing Joe, and there’s also a scripted series which Kate McKinnon is attached to.

Surviving Joe Exotic airs on July 25th at 10 pm (ET/PT) on Animal Planet.
