Is there such a thing as too much sex? So many jokes…must behave. It seems that Matt Smith thinks there’s too much in House of the Dragon.
Game of Thrones was known for two things, dragons and boobs. Pretty much every character on the series got naked at some point and there was the occasional scene of violence against women. Game of Thrones was a while ago now, so you would have thought, in this day and age, it might have been toned down.
According to Smith, that’s not been the case with the new prequel due out, House of the Dragon. While talking to Rolling Stone magazine, Smith said:
“You do find yourself asking, ‘Do we need another sex scene?’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, we do.’ I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.”
He says that, but then one of the show’s writers and executive producers goes on to say:
“I’d like to clarify that we do not depict sexual violence in the show. We handle one instance off-screen, and instead show the aftermath and impact on the victim and the mother of the perpetrator.“
So, if there is rape in the book, they won’t be showing it although they are trying “represent the books truthfully and honestly”.
Even though it’s now 2022, the producers of House of the Dragon are still hoping sex sells., which let’s face it, it does. This weekend coming, the LMO Livestream will have the guys naked to bring in a larger audience.
House of the Dragon will be streaming on 21st August on HBO.
