I had to double-take on that title. Yes, it is called Dunk & Egg and it is another prequel to Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon, focusing on the Targaryen dynasty, is already deep into production and is due out in 2022.
Game of Thrones ended in 2019 in one of the most disappointing conclusions ever. This turned off a lot of fans. This hasn’t stopped HBO from developing these two prequels.
According to Deadline Steve Conrad, who is known for movies like The Pursuit of Happyness and Wonder, has been hired as the writer and executive producer for Dunk & Egg, which was originally announced back in January this year.
At the same time, there are at least four other similar projects in development – Sea Snake, Flea Bottom, 10000 Ships, and an untitled animated show.
Dunk & Egg is based on three of The Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas written by George RR Martin. The three books are entitled: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. They follow the adventures of Dunk, Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg, future King Aegon V, Targaryen. The entire series is based about 90 years before the main series of A Song of Ice and Fire.
This new show will be the second prequel to reach our screens, sometime after House of the Dragon, starring Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Paddy Considine.
I don’t know where Martin gets his titles from, Dunk & Egg sounds like a game you would play in a school playground. I have no idea about Flea Bottom, maybe he was scratching his arse one night when the idea just came to him?
