In Star Wars apparently nobody is ever really gone. In comics, as any comic fan knows, nobody is ever really dead. Mantles get passed around, then reclaimed, characters are resurrected faster than a phoenix in a K-hole. Now it looks like Marvel will pull this classic comics move in Thor: Love And Thunder.

Director Taika Waititi was hanging out with a cast member from many, many miles away on the set of Thor: Love And Thunder in Australia, and he even popped across to New Zealand with him. Why would this person, member of Team Thor, be on the other side of the planet while Thor 4 is shooting? A member of the team who became an ex-member of the team during Avengers: Infinity War?

“Me and @idriselba visited the @allblacks last week and I think we can all agree that’s what inspired last night’s win,”

Is all-seeing, all-knowing Heimdall, protector of the Bifröst, going to return after his appearences in 2011’s Thor, 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.

Stabbed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he used his dying breath to summon the Bifröst to send Bruce Banner to Earth to warn them of what was coming. With multiverse hopping shenanigans up for grabs in this phase of the MCU, and with Heimdall being a demigod, then nothing is off the table.

Given a global COVID-19 clampdown on travel why else would a Londoner be in Australia and New Zealand hanging out with the director?

Idris Elba has already spoken about returning. He told We Got This Covered last year:

“Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there. The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology. And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course I would. Yes.”

We know Jane Foster is back in the form of Natalie Portman, and that Chris Pratt is returning as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in this movie. Given that Thor left Earth with the Guardians Of The Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, and that Vin Diesel (Groot) has been seen on the set in Australia, it’s very possible that we will see a few more well known cast members cropping up. We will find out on 11th February 2022.
