The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser, is stupidly good fun. A genuine summer blockbuster that is always a giggle to watch. It seemed like Fraser had a huge career in front of him, but then that all got stopped. Well, now he is back in The Whale.

Firstly, it’s A24, so I’m already in, and secondly, this looks like it could be a role that Fraser could be remembered for for a long time. The movie has been universally praised, with standing ovations for Fraser where it has been shown. The official synopsis from A24 is:

“From Darren Aronofsky comes The Whale, the story of a reclusive English teacher who attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. Starring Brendan Fraser and based on the acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter.”

Fraser has said how proud he is of the movie, telling Newsweek:

“It’s gonna be like something you haven’t seen before. That’s really all I can tell you… the wardrobe and costume was extensive, seamless, cumbersome. This is certainly far removed from anything I’ve ever done but not to be coy…I do know it’s going to make a lasting impression.”

From George of the Jungle to Gorge of the Jungle. Thank you, I’m here all week, be sure to tip your waitress. The Whale opens on 9th December.
