New owners of MGM/UA and still the second biggest streamer on the planet, Amazon, has released the first full trailer for its next big movie – The Tomorrow War. Let’s hope their quality control is better than it was for Without Remorse.
The Chris McKay movie has a heavyweight cast including Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, and Betty Gilpin. The story follows both soldiers and civilians from our present being recruited for a war against an alien species three decades in the future.
Pratt plays a high school teacher who works with a scientist and his estranged father in an attempt to change the course of the war and re-write humanity’s history, saving the entire planet. So, no pressure then! According to the blurb:
“The fate of a futuristic war rests upon one man’s abilities to confront the ghosts of his past.”
Amazon paid Skydance Media and Paramount Pictures $200 million for the distribution rights for The Tomorrow War. A cinema release was originally planned but COVID stopped that.
It was announced in February 2019 that Chris Pratt was in negotiations to star in the film (then known as Ghost Draft). The movie was retitled The Tomorrow War during filming. Creature designer Ken Barthelmey created the aliens for the film.
Filming began on September 1, 2019, with Lincolnton, Georgia, Atlanta, and Iceland as filming locations. Filming wrapped on January 12, 2020.
The Tomorrow War is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video on July 2nd.
