The Hollywood Reporter says a 1965 novel by Fletcher Knebel, Night of Camp David, serves as the basis for Greengrass’s next feature at Universal. It was republished in 2018. The story follows a junior U.S. Senator who comes to believe that the President is mentally unbalanced and sliding into paranoia.

Hope with Ford, Bush and Clinton

The President seeks closer ties to the hostile Soviet Union, wants to annex Canada, and becomes convinced that a shadowy cabal of the media is out to get him.

Jed Mercurio (Line Of Duty, Bodyguard) will adapt the book into a script while Greengrass will produce with Gregory Goodman.

No word yet on whether they will keep the Cold War setting or update to modern times. A recent adaption of The President Is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton was canceled at the casting stage.
