“Never let anyone know what you are thinking.”

Screw that because I’m thinking “hell yes!” after seeing the trailer for The Offer!

They’ve only gone and made an entire TV series about the making of the greatest movie ever made. What!? No not Waterworld you heathens, The Godfather, they’ve made a show about the making of The Godfather!

The Series

Based on Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy’s extraordinary, never-revealed experiences of making the movie, The Offer will consist of 10-episodes about how Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic mafia masterpiece adapted from Mario Puzo’s bestselling novel.

And to make it more than just a typical ‘making of a movie’ story, it will delve into the real life events about how Italian crime boss Joe Colombo didn’t want the movie to happen because he thought it was terrible for the Italian community.

The Cast

The original movie had a stellar cast of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, John Cazale, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire; it was nominated for 11 Oscars and won three — including Best Picture for Ruddy.

This series also has an impressive cast including Miles Teller as producer Albert S. Ruddy, Matthew Goode as producer Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Ruddy’s assistant Bettye McCartt. We also have the excellent Giovanni Ribisi as Italian crime boss Joe Colombo, Dan Fogler as Francis Ford Coppola and Patrick Gallo as Mario Puzo the author.

Actors Justin Chambers will play Marlon Brando, Anthony Ippolito is Al Pacino and Damian Conrad-Davis will be James Caan.

Unfortunately, I can’t find any info on who (or if they even appear in the show) will play the other original cast members.

The Offer Vito
Justin Chambers.
The Offer Michael

He Made Her An Offer She Couldn’t Refuse

The Godfather reached its 50th Anniversary recently and I went to the cinema with a pal of mine to watch 1 & 2 at a special screening and it was glorious. We didn’t bother with the third.

I just want to give kudos to a young couple sitting on the recliners (yeah my cinema is posh) next to me. They were probably in their mid-20s and his loving girlfriend clearly wanted to be part of her boyfriend’s experience in seeing what must be one of his favourite films.

She seemed totally engrossed at the start. It was all weddings, singing and drinking. She let out a little chuckle at the line:

“He made him an offer he couldn’t refuse”

Obviously happy that she was now in on the joke and she seemed to be having a jolly old time of it.

Until we got to the first violence of the film, the horse head scene!

The Godfather Horsehead

She sat bolt upright and leaned forward in sheer horror. I took a sly glance to my left to see her boyfriend with a wry smirk on his face! I have no idea what he told her about this film but the reality of what it was just smacked her in the chops Carlo Rizzi-style.

As the film progressed she became more and more uncomfortable. No longer snuggling up to her beloved and instead, sitting up straight, biting her nails and playing with her hair! Any chance the lad had of being on a promise that night had quickly evaporated but he got to see The Godfather on the big screen and it was totally worth it!

Anyway, here’s what you came for.
