Wu Jing is the highest-grossing male actor of all time in China and wrote and directed the Wolf Warrior franchise. On his filmography are movies ranging from The Battle at Lake Changjin two-header, The Wandering Earth, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. In short, in terms of Chinese cinema, he is a big deal. Now he has joined the cast of The Meg 2: The Trench at Warner Bros. Pictures.
It is all change near the top of the bill for The Meg 2, as 47-year-old Wu comes in as it is revealed that the original film’s leading actress, Li Bingbing, will not be returning. This is unexpected, as Cai Shuya is returning as the character of her daughter from the first movie.
So where this will leave Statham’s Jonas Taylor? How will Meiying return at the age of fifteen without her mother in the story?
Wu joins Jason Statham, Cliff Curtis, and Page Kennedy. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script for the new movie which Gravity Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures are co-producing.
Ben Wheatley is directing The Meg 2 and the current shoot at Leavesden Studios runs until May, after which they go on location.
