Help us Jon Favreau, You Are Our Only Hope!
As we fail to muster any excitement for the further adventures of Rey and whatever the other two are called, save for a morbid curiosity to see how JJ Abrams attempts to clean up the mess from The Last Jedi, we need to get our Star Wars fix from somewhere.
A new hope, our only hope, is the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. Bounty hunters, a stellar cast, the man behind Iron Man. Surely even Kathleen Kennedy can’t mess this up?
Kennedy was on hand to unveil the first trailer which has now gone online.
The series is set five years after the events of Return Of The Jedi, which Favreau states:
“… hasn’t been explored at all, except in the Extended Universe.”
The Galaxy is still adapting to the sudden fall of the Empire, without a central government and gunfighters roaming across the galaxy. The series is said to be inspired by old Samurai and Western movies and aims to match the movies for production quality.
Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte co-star in the series along with the voice of Taika Waititi.
Earlier in the day, Favreau told the media not to expect to see Boba Fett in it:
“Boba Fett is not [in this]. They’re all-new, original characters.”
That’s not to say there aren’t details for fans, including a rifle from the infamous holiday special which was Boba Fett’s first appearance:
“We have lots of deep cuts in the show and I can’t wait for people who love Star Wars to see it,”
The Mandalorian debuts November 12th on Disney+.
