Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo have a lot on the slate at the moment. There are rumors of their involvement in Star Wars, they have one eye on a far future Secret Wars trilogy back at Marvel and have Extraction 2 bubbling up.

Now the Avengers: Endgame helmers showed up online at virtual CCXP to speak about a new project – The Gray Man.

Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans star in the movie that has a big budget attached. Under the Russo’s AGBO production banner the movie is based on a bestselling novel by Mark Greaney that went on to spawn a literary franchise. Greaney also writes the Tom Clancy continuation novels starring Jack Ryan after the passing of Clancy.

They tell the story of a former CIA operative turned freelance assassin named Court Gentry (Gosling) who is hunted across the world by his former colleague Lloyd Hansen (Evans).

Speaking with Collider, Joe Russo was hinting at a franchise, if the first movie is successful. He said that while the movie tells a complete story:

“…we’re not gonna answer every question in the movie” even as that film will tell a complete story. As for where it stands now, [we’re] guys who grew up on a steady diet of action thrillers. The cast is exceptional, the script is excellent. We start shooting at the end of January here in Los Angeles, and then we have some work overseas in Europe after that in the spring.

We have an incredible team and Netflix has been very supportive. [COVID] hasn’t impacted our location shooting. “his is a big, global spy thriller. Its intent is, it’s gonna hit a lot of different locations, and we’re still gonna film in those locations. So we’re excited about that because it’s really important to the storytelling that we visit these different locations.”

There is currently no release date for the movie on Netflix.
