In another one of those “Christ, this makes me feel old!” moments is the realisation that The Goonies is 35 years old. It is considered a classic. Not necessarily a view I agree with. However it does occupy a special place in many people’s hearts.

Yesterday the The Goonies reunited for Josh Gad’s new video series Reunited Apart.

Th cast including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Ke-Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, and Kerri Green all showed up. They re-enacted scenes and shared their memories of working together on the movie.

Spielberg himself put in an appearance and spoke about the long-standing rumors of a sequel.  Turns out the talk, at least, is true:

“Chris [Columbus, The Goonies screenwriter], Dick, and I – and Lauren [Shuler Donner] – have had a lot of conversations about it. Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water. Until we do, people are just going to have to look at this [livestream] a hundred times!”

Donner chimed in to ask:

“How are you going to find seven miserable kids like this again that are new and fresh?”.

The Goonies episode of Reunited Apart raised funds for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s COVID-19 Response Fund.
