Firstly, sorry this is late. I spent all day thinking yesterday was Monday and completely forgot this was on. As per usual the review goes into the story. So if you haven’t seen it yet, be warned, there are spoilers. So far, I haven’t been impressed with The Book of Boba Fett. This episode was mixed but I am starting to think it is getting better.
We start off in the Boba Bacta Bath (again) and he’s flashing back to when he first met up with Fennec, which is from the same timeline as The Mandalorian. Mando and that other wannabe bounty hunter find Fennec and Boba turns up late because he’s riding a Bantha that travels about 3mph. He finds an unconscious Asian chick alone in the desert. JACKPOT!
Fortunately, Boba doesn’t have the same perversions as me and he takes her to a modder on the outskirts of Mos Eisely. The outside of the modders place seems like it is from a Biker Gang of the United Colours of Benneton. It seems every town on Tatooine has one. We have never seen this in Star Wars before, until now.
The modder replaces Fennec’s guts with machine parts because, you know, Darth Vader. She gets better and she says she will help him get back Slave 1 from Jabba’s palace, where it is still docked. Yes, I’m going to call it Slave 1, because that is its name!
It turns out that Bib Fortuna, the same Bib that died on the sail barge in Return of the Jedi, seems to have a loads of muscle at the palace. They were obviously the guards that had to stay back to guard the palace when all the well behaved guards went for a day out to the Sarlacc Pit.
Boba and Fennec plan to sneak in and steal the ship. This whole bit annoyed me. Firstly, Fennec sends in a seeker droid, a little one with RED LIGHTS ALL OVER IT! Who the hell designed that? Steve Wonder? The red lights were just stupid. If you’re sending in a droid to spy out a place, I don’t know, maybe have it as inconspicuous as possible?
They end up in the kitchen where one of the chef droid also seems to have a Ninja setting, which I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at. Then Boba has a little game of chase the droid around the kitchen in a fashion that would have made Tom & Jerry blush with embarrassment.
They finally get Slave 1 back via a great shoot out that was well done. Then Boba heads off to find the biker gang who killed his Sand People friends and gets revenge. Then he heads to the Sarlacc Pit to find his armour.
Again, this annoyed me. He fell into the pit and escaped with his armour on but when he woke up, earlier in the series, his armour was gone. Did he think that someone stripped his armour off and then threw it into the pit? I honestly had no idea why he thought it was in there. The entire scene here was well shot and had some good tension, but overall, it was just not needed.
Boba and Fennec then decide to start a new clan/family and work for themselves, by cutting out the idiots that are usually involved with the crime gangs and working towards making serious money. After the chase in the kitchen, I got a little more involved with Boba now. This is more like it!
We then cut to Black Krrsantan, the Wookie, sat in Garsa Fwips bar. He’s watching some Trandosians winning at gambling and then goes mental and kicks the shit out of them. This was weird. I mean, I get Trandosians are known for hunting Wookies so he hates them, but Trandosians are also pretty tough. However, Krrsantan beats them easily.
Garsa steps in and tries to calm things down a bit, but a Trandosian loses an arm and Krrsantan leaves. I will say at this point, I would happily spend a couple of hours with Jennifer Beals in her Garsa make up, coz she it hawt!
Think unsexy thoughts, think unsexy thoughts… OK, so Boba reaches out to Krrsantan about making some money, but it seems like the Wookie is doing OK on his own. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Black Krrsantan.
There is then a big meeting of the clan/family heads where Boba is pushing for the top spot on Tattooine. They all pledge to him, but we know one of them is going to screw him over. Boba Fett says that war is coming and then need more muscle… this is where the episode ends, with the theme tune of Mando playing. Guess who’s coming back soon?
Just to add, how the hell did Jabba sit on this throne???
Overall this episode of The Book Of Boba Fett, apart from the kitchen chase, was good.
I did notice a huge difference in the action and I looked it up, it wasn’t directed by Robert Rodregiez who did episodes 1 and 3. According to the end credits, this episode was directed by Kevin Tansharoen but on the IMDb it was by Bryce Dallas Howard. Whoever it was, they did a better job of the action.
The only thing that is annoying about the series is removing all of the mystery of Star Wars. I didn’t need to see inside the Sarlacc pit. It was a pointless scene since Boba’s armour would never have been in there. Overall we are seeing that the whole mystery of Boba Fett, only having minimal screen time in ESB and ROTJ, made him much cooler than the guy we are seeing now.
Only three more episodes to go!
