So here it is, the Best Movie of 2022, according to you, the Outposters.

10th – The Gray Man

This just knocked All Quiet on the Western Front out of the Top Ten, but it was a bit of a surprise hit. Directed by the Russo Brothers, and starring Ryan Gosling, Ana De Armas, and Chris Evans, it was good old fashion fun. It was violent, and everyone just had a good time.

9th – X

This got into the Top Ten, but Pearl didn’t. I’m guessing since X has more nudity in it. Whatever the reason, it was well made and had a good horror tone to it, making it your number 9.

8th – Bullet Train

Another fun action movie. Very brutal, witty, and didn’t care too much about the politics. Just a bunch of people on a train trying to murder each other, like an Agatha Christie but with more blood.

7th – Violent Night

Late in the year but grabbed everyone’s attention, Violent Night was basically Die Hard with a Drunken Santa. This made it great fun and a new Christmas classic. Very violent as well, I’m starting to see a theme here for movies from 2022.

6th – Prey

Remember when everyone saw the trailer and we all thought it was going to be woke? But then, when the movie came out, we were all pleasantly surprised. OK, so it wasn’t perfect, but again, it was good fun and had lots of blood.

5th – Everything Everywhere All At Once

A multiverse movie done right, from a hot dog finger universe to a universe where everyone is a rock, not to mention super-powered butt plugs. This was a treat of a movie that took everyone a little by surprise but in a good way.

4th – The Banshees of Inisherin

Another late entry in the year, but a very well made movie bringing back together Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and director Martin McDonagh. A very simple movie, but had so many layers to it, being very funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

3rd – The Batman

Some people loved this, saying it was one of the best Batman movies ever, others hated it saying it was too long at just under 74 hours. It seems you lot liked it, since it got into the top three here, but not in the top ten of our worst movies list. Science!

2nd – The Northman

This was an epic adventure about revenge, incest, violence, and naked men fighting. This was just back to basics – a young lad sees his father killed, only to get revenge later in life, but again, there were so many other layers to it and it was very well made.

1st – Top Gun: Maverick

This was going to be an obvious one for 2022. It had to be this. A group of fighter pilots who had to fly down a narrow canyon to hit a small exhaust port, only 2 meters wide. It’s a good job one of the pilots used to bullseye womp rats in his T-16 back home, since they were much bigger than 2 meters.

Hang on, I think I got a confused there. Top Gun: Maverick was about Tom Cruise teaching a bunch of teenagers to destroy a military compound. The movie was low on woke, went back to a lot of practical effects, real flying and was just good old-fashioned fun. Jennifer Connelly helped as well. That lady ages like a fine wine.

It took an impressive $1.4 billion in the box office, which is not bad, I guess.

So that was 2022, a year full of highs, but mostly lows, for the entertainment industry. At least things can only get better, right?
