The Batman seemed to take forever to arrive. It started filming just as lockdowns hit and was stop-start for almost its entire production. This time around they are giving themselves plenty of time again. Filming on the Matt Reeves sequel begins on November 23rd.

This was confirmed by producer Michael Uslan on Instagram. With a release date of October 3rd, 2025, this means a long filming window and lots of space for post-production. Full details of the plot are under wraps, but they seemed to get a script they were happy with together a lot faster than last time.

The Batman

Last time it veered wildly from Ben Affleck’s apparently James Bond approach, thru to Matt Reeves’ Kurt Cobain-inspired detective noir, with more than a dash of The Long Halloween. All we know about the sequel is that Pattinson is returning as Bruce Wayne. We presume Jeffrey Wright will return as James Gordon, along with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth but they are not confirmed.

Also unconfirmed are Paul Dano as Riddler and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin is expected to return, as the now-filming The Penguin TV show will lead into The Batman II, and bridge the gap between movies, showing Cobblepot’s rise to take over from Carmine Falcone and rule Gotham’s underworld.

The Joker was hinted at, and a deleted scene released online showed Barry Keoghan appearing to take on the role.

Some set photos have appeared online from The Penguin, showing Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, and Cobblepot in his purple regalia.

The Penguin is expected on HBO Max next year.
