Production on The Acolyte has begun. The next of Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars spin-off shows for Disney+ has begun filming at the brand new Shinfield Studios in the United Kingdom.
Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) and Lee Jung-jae (Squid Games) star in the show which is said to be a mystery-thriller series set in the High Republic. According to the blurb, it is a:
“Star Wars series that takes viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
Set a whole century before the events of The Skywalker Saga, nobody is quite sure what it will be about. In some canon Star Wars lore, “acolyte” is the term used for a disciple of the dark side of the Force. Usually a Sith apprentice. As this is pre-prequels, it could feature a time when the Sith were still in hiding, getting ready to make their move to take over the galaxy, playing the long game from the shadows.
Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, and Charlie Barnett co-star.

The large outdoor set (market/town) is being utilized. Sources also report series lead Amandla Stenberg being ushered in and out of her trailer.
Filming is expected to continue through May.

The series is being written and executive produced by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who will also be showrunner. At the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), television writer Leslye Headland was asked about her interest in the Star Wars franchise and revealed that she was a big fan with many ideas for Star Wars films that she wanted to make if she was asked to by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
By April 2020, Headland was attached to write and serve as showrunner on this new, female-centric Star Wars series.
