Andor showed us the way, and season 3 of The Mandalorian looks promising. Is Star Wars turning as corner? One upcoming bellwether show that may go either way is The Acolyte, and now we are hearing it is going to be different to anything seen before.
Lead Dafne Keen (Logan) says it will be the first live-action Star Wars tale to be completely led by the Sith. We have seen them before, of course, but they have never been the complete focus like this.
While out promoting The Golden Compass, TechRadar asked Keen what we can expect from the show:
“I can tease that it’s a prequel. No, I mean, as you know, it’s set 100 years before the prequel movies, and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi. It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before.”
The Acolyte is said to be set within the final days of the High Republic and has been described as a mystery-thriller. It will show a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers.
The series is being written and executive produced by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland. Remember, her appointment was the source of tension between then Disney CEO Bob Iger and Lucasfilm a couple of years ago during Iger’s last stint. It is rumored Kathleen Kennedy brought her in against Iger’s wishes.
Headland will also serve as showrunner.
