Kilmer has amassed thousands of hours of footage, from 16mm home movies with his brothers to time spent in iconic roles for movies like Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, and Batman.
Kilmer has spent the last few years battling throat cancer and has re-emerged after time away spent in private getting chemotherapy and seemingly kicking its ass.
Here’s the teaser:
The official synopsis for Val reads:
“For over 40 years Val Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s most mercurial and/or misunderstood actors has been documenting his own life and craft through film and video. This raw, wildly original and unflinching documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled, sometimes hilarious look at what it means to be an artist and a complex man.”
Val is co-directed by editors and filmmakers Ting and Scott, both experienced film editors previously who are now making their feature directorial debut with this doc.
It’s also produced by Val Kilmer himself and is premiering at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival this year in the Cannes Première section.
A24 produced the film and Amazon Prime will premiere Val on August 6th.
