Technically this is the seventh Paranormal Activity film, though it is apparently not a sequel or prequel, it’s more of a reboot of the series.
Next Of Kin takes place in some weird Amish-like community that’s seemingly haunted by supernatural forces despite the Amish community’s general dislike for modern technology.
Here’s the teaser:
Plot details remain under wraps, but the official blurb currently reads:
“Set in some kind of small community where an abandoned mine shaft seems to hold many dark secrets”
Next Of Kin stars Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayres-Brown.
Jason Blum produced the film and explained to Collider why a completely different reboot was necessary, stating that:
“Paramount wanted to continue Paranormal Activity, I probably would have left it alone. So they wanted to continue it, but I thought if they were gonna continue it, you gotta – it was tired, there was no way to continue the road that we’d been down. So I really encouraged all the creative people involved to think of something new. “
“A lot of people who are going to go see the new Paranormal Activity were 3 years old when the first Paranormal Activity came out, so they don’t even know from those older movies. I thought if you were going to re-do it, you better really re-do it, not try and expand what we did all those years ago”
The film is directed by acclaimed genre filmmaker Will Eubank, director of the films Love, The Signal, and Underwater. The screenplay is written by fellow horror writer Christopher Landon (writer of the scripts for Blood and Chocolate, Disturbia, Paranormal Activity 2 – 5, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Viral, Happy Death Day 2U, and Freaky).
Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin will be released on October 29th.
