Soldier Boy AKA The Original Superhero

Supernatural actor Jensen Ackles has joined the cast of The Boys for the third season, reuniting him with onetime boss Eric Kripke.

Ackles will portray Soldier Boy, who after he fought in World War II became the first “super celebrity” and a mainstay of American culture for decades.

Soldier Boy was the original superhero in the novels by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, with the character becoming the first celebrity supe after fighting in World War II. He’s a parody of Captain America, right down to the backstory and the character’s legacy as “a mainstay of American culture for decades.” But the major difference is that Soldier Boy is described as being stupid and untrained, leading to the death of his team and a squadron of soldiers.

Here’s what Kripke said about The Boys new castmember –

“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.”

“As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”

The second season of The Boys will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, with the first three episodes on September 4th, and new episodes available each Friday, culminating in the finale on October 9th.
