According to Daniel Richtman, Jason Statham is up for the title role in a movie adaption of the Warren Ellis comic Gravel.

This thing has been in development hell over at Legendary for a number of years.  This wouldn’t be Statham’s first rodeo in helping pull a movie out of development hell.  The Meg was trapped for 20 years before making it to the big screen.

The comic follows the story of William Gravel, a soldier in the British S.A.S. who also happens to be skilled in dark magic.  As a side-hustle he earns extra cash hiring himself out to rich clients to battle supernatural forces, ghosts and monsters as a mercenary.

Legendary first tried to bring this to the screen in 2009.  Deadpool director Tim Miller was attached back in 2012 but no news since then.Statham still has a sequel to The Meg on his dance card, and is heavily rumored to be in the running for the role of Namor: The Sub-Mariner for Marvel.  This may, however, simply be an assumption based on Statham’s former life as a pro-diver and swimmer, plus a trained scuba diver with obvious comfort being in and around the water.
