Getting good reviews for Guy Ritchie’s Wrath Of Man, with Five Eyes on the way with the same director, Jason Statham is showing no signs of slowing down. He will shortly start filming on The Meg 2 with Ben Wheatley before returning to Mirimax for The Bee Keeper.
Said to be a fast-paced thriller from writer Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit, The Thomas Crown Affair remake, Salt) Deadline reports the story as:
“…deeply steeped in the mythology of Bee Keeping, unconventional and exploring universal themes…”
So not a remake of The Swarm then?
Miramax is speaking to potential directors for The Bee Keeper right now and plans to shoot the movie towards the second half of next year in London and Atlanta. Statham, Wimmer and Bill Block are set as producers.
Statham is said to be heavily involved in the creative process for The Meg sequel, and director Ben Wheatley (Rebecca, High Rise) says:
“I’m storyboarding at the moment. It’s been going on for four months, five months. It’s my happy place, I love storyboarding.
So yeah, I’m cutting storyboards and watching animatics, and slowly constructing the movie.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the most recent draft working off an initial draft by Dean Georgaris. All three shared credit on the initial outing.
Miramax is working hard to move forward in a post-Weinstein world, with gender-swap remake He’s All That, starring TikTok star Addison Rae, Chloe Moretz starring in Mother Android, Halloween Kills, The Georgetown Project with Russell Crowe and Uncle Frank, the Paul Bettany movie set-up at Amazon after a well-received bow at the Sundance Film Festival.
In addition to these, Miramax are also behind the six-part series Spy City starring Dominic Cooper, and The Perfection starring Allison Williams and Logan Browning, which was snapped up by Netflix.
