Special Will Be A Double Episode
Spitting Image will release two special episodes covering the US election which will air on ITV on Halloween night, and then will be available on BritBox.
The satirical puppet show has confirmed plans for two special episodes focused on the key moments around the upcoming election, which will see Donald Trump go up against Joe Biden for the presidency.
According to Deadline, NBC revealed its biased views by pulling out of the show just weeks before its premiere because of “nervousness” around its satirical content. Spitting Image producer Jon Thoday revealed –
“It’s basically quite a difficult show to do in the environment that exists, particularly if you’re attacking tall poppies. Inevitably if you attack tall poppies, people get worried,”
“You can’t really do Spitting Image unless you’re fighting the corner of attacking everybody, but by doing that, people just get nervous. They think they want it, but when they’ve got it they just start worrying about it.”
According to BrtiBox CEO Reemah Sakaan, the new episodes will cover a –
“Uniquely British satirical take on global events”
“We’ve been excited about the timing of the US election for this series of Spitting Image for months”
“It certainly doesn’t seem to be letting us down in terms of material for satire, so we commissioned a bonus episode that we are excited to share with both ITV and BritBox audiences. This is a great chance to celebrate Spitting Image’s noisy return after 18 years and give ITV viewers a taste of the full series, available on BritBox,”
Roger Law, who originally created the show in 1984, said of the political special –
“Spitting Image returns to ITV for a one-off special on the 31 October at 10pm. Halloween. How very appropriate.”
Both episodes will launch exclusively on streaming service BritBox on October 31st, and viewers will be able to watch the first bonus episode that evening in a special one-off broadcast on ITV, ahead of the election on November 3rd.
