After Tony Stark was the mentor first time, and Nick Fury a more challenging drill instructor in the second, the question was whether Peter Parker would finally break free and stand on his own. Well… maybe.

Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role of Doctor Strange for the upcoming third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, a co-production between Marvel and Sony as part of their SPUMC. Whether he will fulfill the mentor role remains to be seen. His appearance seems to back up another rumor we are hearing at the Outpost. That Holland will be joined, at least in cameo, by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Multiverse get’s taken out for a spin. This will be introduced in WandaVision and then cemented in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

This is standard MO for Marvel, with DC also spinning up their multiverse. When DC announced Batman vs Superman was in the works Marvel accelerated plans for Civil War and slid in barely a month behind DC with a movie many would say was more succesful.

With COVID19 still causing travel restrictions and quarantine issues it’s not clear how this will be achieve logistically. Spider-Man 3 starts shooting next week in Atlanta. Holland is still filming Uncharted and Cumberbatch is readying himself for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness in London which also starts imminently.

Jamie Foxx is reportedly returning to a variation on the role of Electro he played in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, probably multiverse shennanigans again. Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon round out the cast. The SPUMC will flow on December 17th 2021.
