It was a movie so 80s it joins Iron Eagle right in our ultimate nostalgia file.  Now Space Camp, the movie that introduced a million young boys to Lea Thompson, is to be remade.

Saturday Night Live writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell have been locked to write the script of a movie remake exclusive for Disney+.

Alongside Lea Thompson, Kelly Preston, Tate Donovan and a young Joaquin Phoenix (then known as Leaf) starred in the original film which was unfortunately released in the same year as the Challenger disaster and therefore suffered at the box office.  No word yet on whether Jinx the robot will return.

The original story featured a group of teens at a Cape Canaveral astronaut summer camp in Florida who are allowed to sit in a space shuttle during an engine test.  Due to a test accident they are accidentally launched into space where they have to work as a team to return alive.

John Rickard (Rampage) will produce the new film. Day and Seidell are also working on the Home Alone reboot and a new live-action Inspector Gadget all for the channel.
