More wonderful news from Hollywood. The classic story of Cinderella, which has been told about 18 times before, is getting an update with a modern twist; the last one was in 2015 with Lily James.
This new version, written and directed by Kay Cannon, is starring Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Nicholas Galitzine, Minnie Driver and, *sigh*, James Corden. Kay is known for writing 30 Rock and Pitch Perfect.
In this musical redo, Camila plays an orphan who longs to meet her prince charming, she then meets her fairy godmother, played by Billy, and follows the same story.
The movie will be the acting debut Camila, following on from her successful music career. She has used the words “funny” and “empowered” in describing the new movie. She goes on to say:
It was one of those things that felt like God handcrafted it for me and was, like, ‘Here you go.’ I just couldn’t say no. It’s honestly a dream for me. And also a little bit terrifying.
I’m pretty sure she’s not the only one who thinks it sounds a little bit terrifying.
The Sony movie was scheduled for the big screen sometime in July, but will now go straight to Amazon Prime. (RELATED: Sony Tie-Up With Netflix As Warner End Releases)
