Filming has just finished on Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is now due out in cinemas for 2022.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog came out in 2020. It ended up being one of the year’s biggest movies and grossed around $300 million worldwide. Not bad for a story about a very fast blue hedgehog.
Earlier this year, in a self-deprecating Twitter post, Paramount announced that the second movie’s title would be Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Now seems that the filming wrapped up in late May. Hopefully, they won’t have any redesigns to go through this time.
When the trailer hit for the first movie hit there was a big backlash from fans about Sonic’s appearance. Pretty much everyone hated the design. Paramount listened, went back, and redesigned the character at an estimated cost of $5 million.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has the original cast back including Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Ben Schwatz, Tika Sumpter, and Natasha Rothwell. Also returning is director Jeff Fowler and writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller. Fowler has already stated that he is:
“…doing some plotting and some scheming for future movies.”
Tails will be joining Sonic in this second movie. The plot summary says:
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation, but, no sooner are they gone, when Dr Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilisations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Fowler reported the completion of filming via Twitter.
That’s a wrap in Vancouver! Thank you to all the amazing cast/crew in this city… so much incredible talent helping make #SonicMovie2 truly special (and spoiler alert… EPIC! )
