Filmmaker Zack Snyder is hard to work out. His Dawn Of The Dead remake really holds up and is an example of a remake that respects and updates the source material while adding a new spin. I still defend Man Of Steel as an interesting take on Superman that reflects the cynical times we find ourselves in and shows realistic reactions to the appearance of a flying God from another world, and how that newcomer may at first struggle to find his place in our world.

However, Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice remains dour, joyless, and ultimately empty. The insertion of Batman is forced and the rush to create a DCEU in response to the MCU was harmful when Man Of Steel 2 was needed first.

Army Of The Dead promised so much and delivered absolutely none of it outside the fun opening titles. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a genuinely good movie and an amazingly fast-flying four hours plus, an epic attempt to make a superhero Lord Of The Rings that makes you root for it. Also, if Junkie XL’s The Son Of Krypton track from the soundtrack doesn’t make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, then you might be clinically dead.

See, Snyder is all over the place.

So what to expect from his next project? Nobody knows! Maybe that is the draw of Snyder. It’s like pot luck! Rebel Moon is up next and it is said to be huge and ambitious.

Snyder popped up on social media network Vevo (Anyone? No? Us neither!) to share the first concept art from the movie.

He also states that principal photography is set to begin in a few months. They are deep in pre-production.

The story sounds like a remake of Battle Beyond The Stars / Magnificent Seven. A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by an intergalactic tyrant Belisarius. A young woman (Sofia Boutella) from the colony is sent on a mission to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to fight with them.

Snyder co-wrote the script alongside Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten and it has previously been talked up as a potential whole universe that can be spun out of the movie.

We will see Zack. We will see. Rebel Moon is awaiting a confirmed release date.
