Another day, another Justice League story with Snyder dropping more details. You have to admire his passion and enthusiasm for the project, and the hype that he has built almost single handed around the project. A little over two weeks to go and we will find out if the hype is justified. I am going for significantly better than the cinematic cut, and probably a bit better than Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice – The Directors Cut. Which means it is still just barely above average. But I am a massive cynic and, after seeing his passion, I genuinely hope he pulls it off.
One thing that is surprising is the news he shared last night . That the four-hour Justice League cut will end as he originally intended. On a cliffhanger. Well, kudos for sticking to his vision. Me, I like my four-hour long stories to have an ending.
In an interview with IGN he was asked about his approach to the Joker and he explained that ideas come from the potential Justice League sequels:
“What inspired [Joker’s] look was the sort of post-apocalyptic world that I’m a huge fan of and, really, the idea was that as the movies progressed, the next movie – if there ever was one, and it doesn’t seem like there ever will be – but if there was, it would exist primarily in that world with them trying to set it right.
[The sequence] doesn’t overstay its welcome but it definitely does what I needed it to do for the story and for us. Beyond that I think it’s a spoiler.”
The other big news is that, while there were originally going to be two Justice League movies, his first plan was for three. This explains why the first movie ends as it does, with this now revealed cliffhanger:
“Well, [the original ‘Justice League’ plan] was meant to be two more movies… [The Snyder Cut] hints, as you would, at a potential other world. I’d plant the seeds as I had wanted to of what would come in the later films, so that’s in there, but as far as those stories that would be to come – if ever that happened, which it does not look like it would – but I think it’s easy to speculate based on that and we can talk about that for quite a while… The movie ends in a massive cliffhanger.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is coming on March 18th and then, finally, we will know. One things for sure, this whole crazy cinematic science experiment has been interesting to follow. We might be sad when it’s over.
