Slow Horses is a real favorite of ours here at Last Movie Outpost. The tale of disgraced rejects from MI5, dumped far from the centre of the Security Service, is fantastic. After messing up somehow in their jobs, but unable to be completely fired, the exiles are sent to Slough House, so-called because you might as well be in Slough. Nicknamed the Slow Horses within the service, they are led by the irascible, slobbish Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), an old pro who may be a fellow reject, but was one of the best in the business back in his day.
An espionage thriller with a heavy element of dark comedy, it is something that makes you want to devour every episode, hitting the next button as soon as one has finished. The series is based Mick Herron’s Slough House book series. Season one was based on Slow Horses, season 2 on Dead Lions.
Co-starring Jack Lowden, the Apple TV+ series closed out it’s second season this weekend. Season one and two were shot back to back, and season three and four are doing the same. Oldman has already indicated that he wants to play Lamb until he retires.
A trailer for season 3 has just dropped, to be based on the third book – Real Tigers. According to the blurb:
“Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves) is kidnapped by a former soldier bent on revenge and must breach Regent’s Park to steal valuable intel in exchange for their comrade’s safety. They soon uncover a larger web of intrigue involving private mercenaries and the highest authorities in the Security Service.”
Season 3 is expected on the streamer in 2023.
